Patellar Groove Replacement

Presented by KYON

Course Description: Patellar Groove Replacement (PGR) is a promising advancement for the surgical correction of canine patellofemoral degenerative disease. For more complex scenarios, those combining multiple deformities of the distal femur and proximal tibial or subsequent to trauma, PGR has proven extremely effective.

This 1-day laboratory will review the background and rationale for PGR, indications, planning, description of the surgical technique, practical using saw bones, surgical complications and discussion. Osteotomy planning, implant selection, and placement will be referenced and reviewed.

KYON PGR Training is appropriate for veterinary surgeons with well-rounded orthopedic experience, knowledgeable in fracture plating, corrective osteotomies and/or TPLO/TTA techniques. Complications are minimal, usually related to technical errors, and easily avoided with comprehensive instruction and modest practice.

Arthrex NanoScope Experience

Presented by Arthrex

Course Description: Join us for Arthrex Vet System’s NanoScope Experience Monday, February 7, 2022 during WVOC. Pick from one of two 2.5 hours sessions (10:00am-12:30pm / 1:00pm-3:30pm) to learn about indications for use of a chip-on-tip NanoScope™ Imagine System. The NanoScope™ provides an important additional option for quick diagnostic arthroscopy for joint disease. The Arthrex Vet System’s NanoScope Experience will consist of concise presentations on indications for use of a chip-on-tip NanoScope System in the canine shoulder, elbow, carpus, hip, stifle and tarsus joints. The laboratory session consists of a canine cadaveric wet lab for participants to trial the new technology on all of these joints. The NanoScope offers precise, direct image-guided visualization for diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopy. The Nano-scope provides an important additional option for quick diagnostic arthroscopy, usually with just sedation, instead of general anesthesia. For diagnosis of joint disease in dogs and cats, it is unparalleled, especially with regard to cartilage, meniscus, ligament, and tendon problems. All with short-duration sedation, a small clip and prep, and video documentation for client education. This new technology has improved and changed the way surgeons manage joint disease in small animals.

CORA Based Leveling Osteotomy (CBLO)

Presented by Veterinary Orthopedic Implants

Course Description: CORA based leveling osteotomy is a procedure where the tibial plateau angle is modified by centering the saw blade (ACA) at the location of the CORA (center of rotation of angulation). In doing so there is no secondary translation, i.e., the proximal anatomic axis and distal anatomic axis are aligned. The osteotomy is stabilized with a Veterinary Orthopedic Implant (V.O.I.) specially designed locking plate and counter-sink compression screw. The course will detail surgical planning, surgical technique, post-operative management, complications, and long-term outcome. In this course participants will familiarize themselves with the CBLO procedure through lecture, clinical case presentations, radiographic pre-operative planning, and by performing the procedures on saw bone models. Course participants will learn basic techniques in addition to techniques including management of Juvenile CCL injury with CBLO, CBLO with concurrent patella luxation correction, and double cut techniques for excessive tibial plateau angle (eTPA).

Custom Joint Replacement

Presented by biosurgex

Course Description: This course will demonstrate the process of developing individualized solutions for challenging joint replacement cases. This process is based on a close collaboration between the primary surgeon and a team of specialized engineers. Real clinical cases will be discussed and the decision-making will be presented with a step-by-step approach, including:

  • Decision between custom and commercial implants

  • Definition of technical problems

  • Choice of implant design

  • Engineer’s drawings and surgeon’s feedback

  • Finalization drawings

  • 3D printed implants review

  • Pitfalls
